Middle East studies in the NewsSpeech Deserved Media Coverage [on Khaleel Mohammed]
by Alan Pfeffer http://www.timesunion.com/opinion/article/Speech-deserved-media-coverage-675760.php http://www.campus-watch.org/article/id/10162 Professor Khaleel Mohammed of San Diego State University spoke to more than 200 people on Sept. 19 at a United Jewish Federation-sponsored event at Temple Israel in Albany. His topic was "Why an Islamic scholar and Imam, accepted by both Sunni and Shia sects, supports Israel." The event was not covered by major news outlets. His answer is important for everyone to hear. It is based on religion (the Quran), history, (the protectorate establish by the Calif Omar after the conquest), and Israel's aid to Muslim countries in their time of need. It's too bad the news outlets were not there. But as he said, it's hard for him and other Islamic academics to get their message out because the media are only interested in reporting on incendiary speech.
