Five Gordon College students temporarily stranded in Egypt during sometimes violent civil unrest arrived in Istanbul, Turkey, yesterday.
The five, including one North Shore resident, had been unable to leave, as transportation and communications were hampered by the increasing instability of the Egyptian government.
"All students and staff arrived safe and sound," according to a statement from the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, which organized the visit. Students spend a semester, about 16 weeks, in the region, visiting Egypt, Turkey and Israel as part of the Middle East Studies Program.
The school has declined to release their names.
Gordon officials are hopeful the students can return and complete their study in Egypt in the near future.
