The daughter of a Port Jefferson village trustee has been flown out of Cairo, Egypt, with her study group, Gordon College confirmed yesterday.
Kyleen Burke, daughter of Trustee Jim Burke, was spending a semester in Egypt as part of her college's Middle East Studies program. School officials report all members of the group are safe. They were flown Tuesday to Turkey where they will complete their semester abroad, according to a college spokesperson.
Burke, a recent graduate of Earl L. Vandermeulen High School, had lost her uncle, a New York City police officer, on 9/11. Friends say that personal tragedy inspired Kyleen to learn about the situation in the Middle East.
