An SVSU student was evacuated from the American University of Cairo, during the recent civil unrest against former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
SVSU's student newspaper, the Valley Vanguard, is reporting Zachary Brissette was forced to leave the country after the U.S. State Department ordered for an evacuation of American citizens from the country.
"Even after things started calming down, he wanted to go back," Janna Kern, SVSU's Study Abroad coordinator, told the Vanguard. "But from a security and risk standpoint, we can't have our students in harm's way like that."
The report said Brissette decided to stay in Istanbul for several weeks and currently plans to travel to Europe.
The revolts began calling for Mubarak's resignation on Jan. 25 and ended on Feb. 11 when Mubarak resigned.
