Penn State has shut down its Egypt study abroad program this summer in light of the recent political turmoil.
Though this may upset those who were hoping to go to Egypt, we think Penn State has made the right choice.
Egypt is currently unsafe.
Journalists who are trying to cover the revolution are in danger of assault.
Penn State simply can't send students into a country that is experiencing such a radical change in government.
For those who still want to go to Egypt, there are other study abroad programs available that don't go through Penn State, and they may be a better option at this time.
There is still plenty of time for those who can no longer go to Egypt to apply elsewhere.
But Penn State administrators need to keep an eye on the internal affairs of Egypt so that the study abroad program can be reinstated as soon as possible.
The country will hopefully stabilize sometime soon, and when it does, Egypt will still be a popular destination for those interested in studying abroad in the African country.
It's easy to be disappointed at the program's cancellation.
However, with all the violence and political unrest happening in that part of the world, we believe Penn State made the right choice in ensuring the safety of its students.
