Cade Roberts, a graduating senior majoring in International Security Studies at The University of Oklahoma and member of the Arabic Flagship Scholar Program at OU, has been selected for the year-long study program at the University of Alexandria in Alexandria, Egypt.
Roberts has traveled and studied extensively in the Middle East. He spent the summer of 2010 studying at the University of Alexandria in Egypt, the spring of 2011 studying at the Yemeni College of Middle Eastern Studies in Sana'a, Yemen, where he was a firsthand witness to anti-governmental protests that swept the region during the Arab Spring, and the summer of 2011 studying at the Modern Language Center in Irbid, Jordan. He has also traveled in Israel, Palestine and Italy, as well as several other countries.
Roberts will depart in June to spend a fully-funded, complete academic year at the University of Alexandria, Egypt, studying Modern Standard and Colloquial Egyptian Arabic, attending cultural excursions, and interacting with Egyptian peers. He is the son of Tom and Deanna Roberts and a 2008 graduate of Fort Gibson High School.
