Carol Riphenburg, professor of political science at College of DuPage and expert on the Middle East, is living in Cairo, Egypt, as she works on a project studying women's participation in the political process, according to an article on the College of DuPage website.
Riphenburg is working with Cairo University faculty members during the fall semester on her project titled "Women and Political Participation in Egypt: Opportunities and Encumbrances for Women Following the January 25 Revolution." She has been awarded a Fulbright Scholar Grant for her research.
Riphenburg has received two previous Fulbright awards. Her work includes a book and multiple articles and contributions, including "Afghanistan's Constitution: Success or Sham" for the Middle East Policy Council in 2005 and "Women for Afghan Women: Shattering Myths and Claiming the Future" for the Middle East Women's Studies Review.
During her current Fulbright trip, Riphenburg is interviewing women in universities and nongovernmental organizations and will share their stories with her students upon returning to College of DuPage.
