Bridgewater State University Professor Makes Film About Jordan, 'Bridging Cultures' [on Jabbar Al-Obaidi]
by Wicked Local
The premiere of "Bridging Cultures" will take place at 2 p.m. Nov. 18 in the Lecture Hall located in Maxwell Library on Bridgewater State University.
"Bridging Cultures" is a half-hour program that follows four-students from Bridgewater State University on their journey to the country of Jordan. Throughout their travels the students become immersed into the culture, traditions, and interact with the Jordanian people. Through a series of shared experiences and discussions the American students gain a detailed understanding and appreciation of Jordanian life.
"Bridging Cultures" is the creation of Jabbar Al-Obaidi, professor of communication studies and director of the Middle-East Studies program at Bridgewater State University. Al-Obaidi organized the student trip, and coordinated the process of providing each student with a video camera to record their travels as they see fit.
The program weaves together selections of the students' filming, along with additional footage recorded by Purple Turtle Productions Inc., and contributions of still and video images provided by Jordanian news and educational organizations, and the people of Jordan.Note: Articles listed under "Middle East studies in the News" provide information on current developments concerning Middle East studies on North American campuses.
