Middle East studies in the NewsDetained US Student's Dad Asks Iran For Compassion [on Esha Momeni]
The Associated Press http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2008/11/07/news/ML-Iran-American-Arrested.php http://www.campus-watch.org/article/id/6195 TEHRAN, Iran — Iran's official news agency says the father of a detained female Iranian-American student has asked authorities to treat her with compassion. The IRNA report Friday quoted Esha Momeni's father, Gholamreza Momeni, as saying he was not aware of any "illegal activities" involving his 28-year-old daughter. Police pulled over the California State University student on Oct. 15 for an alleged driving violation. She was later taken to a prison north of Tehran where she remains. Her lawyer says Iranian court officials have privately told her parents that the detention was related to her involvement in the "Change for Equality" campaign launched by Iranian female activists in September 2006.
