In May, the Minnesota Department of Education found Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy, which teaches hundreds of Muslim students at its Inver Grove Heights and Blaine campuses, was not teaching Islam to students after controversy arose from allegations the school mixed the roles of religion and public education. However, the department ordered TiZA to modify its communal prayers to make sure students aren't missing too much class and recommended the school provide afterschool busing at different times for students who aren't participating in religious activities.
