Accused terrorist Hassan Diab has been granted bail.
A judge ruled Tuesday that Diab be released while he awaits a hearing on whether he should be extradited to France to face charges in a 1980 synagogue bombing.
Diab - a Lebanese-born Canadian citizen - is wanted by French authorities on charges of murder, attempted murder and destruction of property.
The accusations arise from the bombing that killed four people and injured scores in Paris.
Diab was arrested in November by the RCMP on a warrant issued by the French.
Crown attorneys argued that Diab should remain in custody because he presented a flight risk.
But defence lawyer Don Bayne portrayed the French case against him as a weak one and produced witnesses willing to testify to Diab's good character, post bail money and supervise him if released.
A decision on the extradition request is likely months away.
Diab is a part-time instructor in sociology at Carleton University and the University of Ottawa.
