Binghamton University President Lois DeFleur speaks to the media for the first time since the tragic murder of Professor Richard Antoun.
But is unable to give any new details Tuesday night regarding the criminal investigation.
President Lois DeFleur offered no new significant details regarding the murder here on campus, saying the investigation is in the hands of police and the prosecutors.
Speaking to the media for the first time since the tragedy, DeFleur also wasn't able to offer any insight into the graduate student who allegedly stabbed and killed professor Antoun, 46 year old Abdulsalam Alzahrani.
She says his records have been subpoenaed and handed over to the District Attorney.
DeFleur says she learned of the stabbing in Science Building one by text alert while in a meeting.
When asked if the death of Antoun could have been avoided DeFleur said it is impossible to tell.
"Most professors except for those in some clinical fields they are not trained, to other than just as lay people like you and me they're not trained often to recognize the stress or how to deal with it," said DeFleur.
DeFleur says the university offers professors guidelines to pinpoint distressed students.
Those who knew Al-Zahrani said he was having financial troubles.
She praised campus police and University response.
But again, stressed the University is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
