"We were not born yesterday"by Alex Joffe
Late Friday afternoon is a time to reorganize the pens on one's desk according to size and color while staring at the clock on the wall. Instead, we have mail:
And hello to you too. I confess that I have never heard of Mr. Blankfort, although I was vaguely familiar with the ADL case he mentioned. Nor, in my ignorance, have I ever heard of the Fulbright Senate hearings or the American Zionist Council. Apparently my initiation into these mysteries was incomplete. Mr. Blankfort, however, appears to be quite the expert, and readers interested in exploring the matter need only Google him. They may then select whether to read his work in the ever provocative Counterpunch, or perhaps an endorsement by Israel Shamir, in a charmingly entitled article "The Shadow of Zog." His work, such as I can understand it, seems splendidly captured by his four sentence missive. Jews control America for Israel's benefit. Israel is an illegitimate settler-colonial state. Simple, really. Those possessed of Great Insights, especially Deeply Hidden Ones, are not without their quirks, however. His accusation that Noam Chomsky has undermined the Left on "Israel/Palestine" out of a hitherto unsuspected sentimental attachment to Zionism is one example. This has evidently caused some doctrinal difficulty among those who believe that Noam Chomsky may be the Godhead. What can I say? On the one hand, life is too short to waste time with such foolishness. On the other, if not confronted, then things get out of hand and nonsense becomes hateful and dangerous. How are we even to characterize Mr. Blankfort's accusation? The plot seems breathtakingly ambitious. "Every other key aspect of American Society?" That's, uh, pretty big. And when things get that big, well, you never know how big they really are. This psychology reminded me of something:
Mr. Blankfort's email was also sent to Professor Cole, and it will be interesting to see whether he responds. In the meantime, let me plead with the Elders of Zion to please get all these Mossad guys out of my office. They keep eating all the bagels and lox, they do the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzles without asking permission (in ink, yet), and I think they're the ones leaving the toilet seat up.
